We started the Camden Collective Learning Center last fall to help Northside kids with homework and support during the pandemic. We ran an afterschool program during the school year and received free space from Salem Lutheran Church. Our time at Salem is coming to a close and we will be moving locations to partner with The Minneapolis New School of Music. This partnership will allow us to better serve and reach Northside youth and families.
However, we will need to set up an inviting new youth space. At Salem they provided us with tables, couches, bookshelves, etc. but at our new space we need to outfit it ourselves. We believe that providing a comfortable space supports kids emotionally and allows them to relax and be more receptive to mentoring relationships.
We will use the $1000 to purchase couches, bookshelves, tables, lamps, wall paint and other things to make the space inviting.
We will ask for donations of furniture but we will also use the Habitat ReStore as a resource. While items from there are lower cost, they are not free.
